Outdoor lighting

For design the outdoor lighting,it must have covered many aspect such as to increase the safety, security and look beauty also saving electricity energy.

We must make a good selection about types of lighting to ensure it suitable with our application,design and the important thing is ENERGY SAVING.

So this time i want share some information how to choose a suitable lighting for outdoor.I hope it can give you some ideas to get a best selection,safety and meet our requirement.

Outdoor lighting – How to choose a suitable types

1) Safety around properties

  • Halogen floodlights

It can produce a good quality of white light and suitable for safety purpose.This floodlight has a rated life of 4,000 hours, which is 50% longer than the typical rated life of regular floodlights.

  • CFL outdoor floodlights

We also can use  ENERGY STAR CFL outdoor floodlights.These CFLs can provide the same amount of light, last longer, and consume less power than regular incandescent reflector lamps.

2) Landscape lighting

  • Low-voltage incandescent

Low-voltage incandescent or tungsten-halogen fixtures and bulbs are popular for landscape lighting because of their low voltage,low energy cost, and easy installation.

  • Energy Star CFL

We also can use  ENERGY STAR CFL.It can provide the same amount of light, last longer, and consume less power than regular incandescent  lamps.

3) Insect repellent

High pressure sodium lights, with their golden yellow hues, would be a good choice. Or, any bulb with a yellow coating or a fixture with a yellow lens would also work as a insects repellent.

4) Wide area

  • High-pressure sodium lamps (HPS)

This type provide a highly efficient means to light a big areas, such as parking area and building around.We can replaced this type from mercury vapor lighting.

It would be a best choice for areas such as garages,building parking area and storage. In animal production,it is useful to control a high humidity at barn area.

 

Control methods for outdoor lighting

  • Use an automatic timers to off and on at specific times.
  • Use Photocell controls to detected light area levels.
  • Motion detectors can control the light for on and off when someone steps in and out of range.
  • All controls must be weather proof.
  • Outdoor lighting must suitable with ambient temperature.

    • Stadium lighting design depends on the number of players,level of match and number of spectators..normally the average horizontal illuminance is 1200 – 1700 lux and the vertical illuminance is 900 – 1300 lux.

  3. The best lighting system you can do in your outdoor lighting is install a solar lightings. Since it is for an outdoor lightings the most appropriate is the solar lightings. There are so many solar lighting available these days in the market where you can choose lots of different designs. Though a little expensive but you can save the maintenace routine, achieve huge energy savings, but most all you contribute a share on our green environment.

  5. This is so important. Always check what your jurisdiction allows. Don’t trust anyone that says “they just want your money, you don’t need a permit”. You will pay for it later when either when there is a fire or legally when you go to sell. Good information. Will send others to this page.
