Fault protection

A new terminology for electrical currents now include all faults those between live conductors as well as earth or grounding faults.

If we not design our circuit protection properly followed standard guide,it can cause serious injury or death for human and equipment damage.

Fault current be determined at every relevant point. For small and medium installations with LV utility supplies, this is satisfied by determination of the fault currents at the incoming power supply. read more

Distribution substations

For electrical power distribution, substation is the one important component to serve, distributing and regulated an electricity to building, factory or private living area.

Normally substations have the several required equipment such as power transformers and the voltage-regulating device for converting the high incoming sub-transmission voltages to low voltage primary system and ensure it in specified voltage tolerances.

The others basic equipment in substations includes circuit breakers, switches, bus bars, shunt coil reactor, power factor correction capacitors, lightning arresters, read more

Circuit breaker specific features for main switchboard

For circuit breakers specification MUST suitable with installation condition and needed.Main switchboard is the main power supply distribution for factory or building. This unit is a key for entire electrical power supply distribution.

Circuit breaker feed the high volume of voltage for all equipment and machine. It also have a high value of short circuit current due to proximity of low voltage supply and size busbar for conveying the high current.

So we need carefully and detail understanding about circuit breaker before choose the circuit breakers for main switchboard application. This time i want share some information about criteria and specification circuit breaker for main switchboard. read more

Maintenance for low voltage circuit breakers

Low circuit breaker normally operating at 600 volt AC and below. The common used types of  circuit breaker around the world such as molded case circuit breaker (MCCB) and Air circuit breaker ( ACB ).

This low voltage circuit breaker usually used for power distribution and sub power distribution at factory and general industry. It a combination with electrical and mechanical device to protect our electrical system from overload and over current matters.

IEE regulation stated a several condition for maintenance and services for circuit breaker. The main purpose is to make sure this circuit breaker in good condition and can activated when problem happen. It also for safety purpose for equipment and personnel. read more

Overload relay setting and calculation

Overload relay is the one of important device for motor control. It can prevent our motor from overheat or winding burning due overload of ampere.

We need to setting the value of overload relay properly depend on our application and motor full load ampere. If we setting low from FLA,it can cause motor trip c0ntinues and process not running smoothly.

But if we setting to high from FLA,the overload relay cannot protect the motor if overload happen. It can cause the motor failure or winding burns. So we must calculated and get a right setting for the overload relay. read more

Types of motor overload relay

A motor overload relay is an electro-mechanical relay that is operated by heat developed in the relay. When the level of current in a circuit reaches a preset value, the increased temperature opens a set of contacts.

Overload relay should install in our motor starter application for extra protection.Overload relay can avoid serious damage for electric motor when overload happen to our system with proper setting.

The increased temperature opens the contacts through a bimetallic strip or by melting an alloy that activates a mechanism that opens the contacts depend on our setting for overload relay. This time i explain detail about common types of overload relay for motor control. read more

Motor Overload Protection

Overload protection is installed in the main control circuit or power line of motor to protect from damage due to mechanical malfunction overload conditions when it is running.

The effect of an overload is an excessive rise in temperature in the motor windings due to current higher than full load current.

Properly sized overload protection disconnects the motor from the power supply when the heat generated in the motor circuit or windings approaches a damaging level for any reason. Read More
