Electric Motor Specifications

As we known, electric motor is an electrical equipment that convert from electrical source to mechanical energy and create rotating force. For Electrician or Electrical Engineer,to choose a right motor specification for installation or equipment is important and it’s critical decision have made.

We must know all about electric motor specifications to suit for our application. All important parameters or specifications  that we need for our application design must suitable with electric motor that we want to install to avoid any damage or failure during operation.

This time I would like to share about Electric Motor Specification that we must understand before we select or purchase new motor for our installation or project. How we can found about electric motor specification? Read More

Electric Motors Voltage and Balance

When we plan to install an electric motor for our application, the one of  important parameter that we MUST verify is about VOLTAGE.Ensure the voltage is balance between phase to phase.

Motor voltages should be kept as close to the nameplate value as possible, with a maximum deviation of 5 %. Normally motors are designed to operate within 10% of nameplate voltage.

What happen if your voltage variations is large than nameplate voltage? The answer is if  voltage variations larger than motor nameplate voltage,it’s can have several damage effects to the motor on torque, slip, current, efficiency, power factor, temperature, and service life. read more

Determining electric motor load and efficiency

As we known, the electric motor is the one of important equipment to drive the operation smoothly from beginning to end of product.

Electricity cost normally around 60% came from electric motor running. It become more worth if installed motors are oversized, low efficiency, under design, poor maintenance or mismatched.

So to know the actual motor performance, we need to determine electric motor load and their efficiency to eliminated all problems that can cause the high electricity cost and breakdown.

We need to collected several important data from our electric motor to made comparison and analysis about load and efficiency.

Motor cooling

Electric motor generated the heat from inductance process. So the temperature is important factor to ensure the electric motor can operated smoothly without any problem.

Heat can effected the efficiency of motor, maximum load capacity, duty cycle and winding lifespan. That why heat from motor operation must be controlled by motor cooling.

How to control temperature for electric motor? The best method is with motor cooling system.Basically heat generated during motor running will be transferred to the ambient air surrounding. read more

Terminal connection for induction motor

When we install a new electric motor for our application,we need to determine the voltage of power supply. Why it so important when we dealing with electric motor?

Ok..electric motor manufacture design their product can suit with several value of power supply around the world. It made the motor can used at any countries without worried about their power supply value.

The value of voltage for all country’s around the world have variant such as 200 VAC,220 VAC,415 VAC or 440 VAC  for 3 phase. That why some motor manufacture design their motor can operated with 2 types of voltage. So it available for use to any country around the world. read more

motor nameplate information #1 – Electrical Input

The important information that we can see on motor nameplate is a electrical input. From this we can know what the voltage for motor, the suitable frequency, full load ampere, type of connection ( star or delta ),power factor and others.

We can collected the data for induction motor from name plate. This information is very important to troubleshooting or rectify any problem happen about that motor.

This information is critical items to ensure we install the right motor ans suitable with our application.Ok,i explain the detail about electrical input for induction motor that we can found on name plate. read more
