ACTI 9 Miniature Circuit Breakers by SCHNEIDER ELECTRIC

Schneider Electric is the one of my favorite brand for electrical protection device. This time I want to share information about one of the Schneider Electric product. It is DIN rail modular Device- ACTI 9 Miniature Circuit Breaker by Schneider Electric.

DIN rail modular device have several range of products.Actually I want highlight about  miniature circuit breaker ACTI 9 device that used widely in low voltage electrical installation.

Schneider Electric produce the high quality products with advance technology for low voltage circuit protection like Miniature circuit breaker (MCB).That why I always choose products from Schneider Electric to my electrical installation. read More

Selecting a suitable generator for your application- Part 2

Last time,on my post “Selecting a suitable generator for your application – PART 1”,I’m promised to continue discussion about selecting a suitable generator for your application. In this post, I explained details and shared some tips to get a suitable generator for your application.

What’s this THD?

For ensuring smooth and continuous running of generator it is important to measure its THD –total harmonic distortion. When a significant portion of the load on a generator (or any power source for that matter) is non-linear, all the loads fed by the source will see this distortion. read more

Selecting a suitable generator for your application- Part 1

Ever tried to buy a generator? No? Then, you are saved a potential existential crisis, by God’s grace!! Ask someone who has tried to buy and actually landed with one.

And, he or she would tell you about the trials and tribulations involved in the process. It’s like trying to decode the proverbial riddle: horse before the cart or the cart before the horse!

Do you need a standby generator, single-phase, three-phase, kW, KVA, welder, or motor starting generators? Or, do you need a diesel run or a petrol run generator? read more

Basic of automatic voltage regulator

Basically the AVR or Automatic Voltage Regulators function for generator is to ensure voltage generated from power generator running smooth to maintain the stable voltage in specified limit. It can stabilize the voltage value when suddenly change of load for power supply demand.

If the generator running in parallel condition, the AVR can controlled the voltage that it produce to ensure of equal value for reactive load sharing.

For the big system of interconnected power distribution with parallel design,it must have a full controlled and transient stability particular must added for requirement to the Automatic Voltage regulator for generator. read more

How calculate ampere for electric motor?

Generally for electric motor size,it rated by horsepower (hp) or kilowatts (kW) unit.We can recognize the electric motor size when refer to their kilowatts or horsepower. So from power (kW/hp), how we can know the full load ampere for electric motor?

This time i want share about how to calculated the full load ampere (FLA) of electric motor from their power rated. It not difficult if we know the right formula to get the answer. From this calculation we only can estimate the value of full load ampere.

We cannot get the actual full load ampere because it depend on efficiency of motor. If electric motors have a higher efficiency rating,it will draw fewer amps, for example a 10 HP motor with a 60% efficiency rating will draw about 65 amps at 230 VAC compared to about 45 amps for a motor with a 80% rating. read more

charging methods for UPS batteries

When we used the power from batteries,it will drop and losses the power performance. It must be charging to full back a capacity of batteries. It must be discharged periodically and charged up back to ensure it will supply enough power supply when needed.

Manufacture have a design suitable charging process for their UPS to ensure it can recharged a battery more faster and prolong the life span.If the charger equipment is breakdown,it can cause the power supply shortage due to UPS cannot deliver the voltage. read more

UPS batteries charging rates

Basically charging rates for UPS batteries depend on type of batteries cell such as Lead-acid (Pb) or Nickel Cadmium (NiCd).This two types of batteries cell have a different method to charging up.

For Lead-acid (Pb) cells is used a ‘constant voltage’ method. It mean where the current varies as the state of charge changes.Different method for Nickel Cadmium (NiCd) cells,it  is used ‘constant current’ where the cell voltage varies as the state of charge changes.

When we try to charging batteries  from  Lead-acid (Pb) cells type, the basic process are from a constant voltage source the charging current starts high and slowly decreases to a constant value when the cells become fully charged. The constancy of the current is an approximate indication that the cells are fully charged. read more
